The Surgery Division is organized into the Sections of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute/Emergency General Surgery. Currently, there are 17 surgeons and 18 APPs in the Division. Trauma and Surgical Critical Care services are performed at Atrium Charlotte - a 874 bed, tertiary/quaternary care hospital, ACS-verified Level I trauma center. Our Trauma service has ~ 7000 Trauma Code activations annually with ~ 4500 trauma admissions. Our Surgical Critical Care provides care for ~1500 patient consults per year on a variety of service lines such as: Transplant, HEENT, Surgical Oncology, Emergency General Surgery, Orthopedic, Hepatobiliary, Trauma, Vascular, etc.
Most recently, Atrium Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health, including Wake Forest School of Medicine officially joined as a single enterprise, Atrium Health. The Enterprise will have over 70,000 teammates working together to provide personalized care for each of the 15 million annual patient encounters.

Education, Experience and Certifications:
Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions. Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS preferred. Also critical care experience preferred.
Nurse Practitioner: Master’s Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served.
1 Year experience ACNP or AGANP required
Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required, master’s degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
