Antioch University seeks an experienced, strategic, and innovative thinker to lead a collaborative effort to establish and build its Graduate School of Nursing and Health Professions (GSNHP). The founding Dean will develop the school’s vision, mission, and academic strategic plan, and oversee its implementation.
Antioch University has joined with Otterbein University to establish the Coalition for the Common Good, the first national higher education system of affiliated universities organized around a shared mission of promoting democracy, social and racial justice, and the common good. These objectives are expressed in the new mission statement of the Coalition.
The Coalition for the Common Good is a network of affiliated private, nonprofit colleges
and universities that, through collaboration and integration, provide transformative
education and lifelong learning. Together, we are dedicated to promoting democracy,
social justice, equity, inclusion, engaged global citizenship, and the common good.
A central element of the first phase of the Coalition is the transfer of existing Otterbein University graduate programs in nursing and health professions to Antioch University. Antioch has a strong record of providing graduate professional education in several fields, most notably counseling, psychology, and therapies, as well as in education, environmental studies, leadership and change, management, and fine arts.
Otterbein’s nursing and health and sport sciences programs are fully accredited, have consistently high professional exam pass rates, and successfully prepare students to advance their careers after graduation. While Otterbein has deep roots in its historic base of Central Ohio, Antioch University has evolved into a national presence with locations in Los Angeles; Seattle; Santa Barbara; and Keene, New Hampshire. Its graduate programs are offered at the master’s and doctoral levels and in modalities that best align with pedagogical goals and the needs of adult learners. Both Antioch and Otterbein are committed to enhancing access to higher education and preparing graduates to lead with integrity and advance their communities and professions for the common good.
In this context, Antioch will establish a new school—The Graduate School of Nursing and Health Professions—in September 2024, bringing Otterbein’s graduate programs in Nursing and Health and Sport Sciences to Antioch as its inaugural programs. Those programs include the following:
Graduate Nursing
- Family Nurse Practitioner (BSN to DNP, MSN included; FNP post-graduate certificate)
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (BSN to DNP, MSN included; PMHNP post-graduate certificate)
- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA) This will be a new program built on the successes of Otterbein’s existing CRNA program.
- Doctor of Nursing Practice, master’s degree to DNP
Health and Sport Sciences
- Master of Science in Allied Health (MSAH)
- Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT)
- Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (MSND)This will be a new program launched by Antioch University building on the intellectual property and experience of Otterbein University
The founding Dean has the opportunity to build on the strengths of the Otterbein nursing and HSS programs, some which date back over 30 years, through the addition of new programs, cross-coalition initiatives, and collaborations with Antioch’s existing graduate programs.
Modalities, Facilities, and Locations
Each Nursing and HSS program will be launched in a modality and location that best fits theacademic program and student needs. This is consistent with Antioch’s focus on offering flexibleschedules and modalities that acknowledge the realities of working adults and reflect robust pedagogical approaches.
- The HSS programs will be launched from Central Ohio, with MSAH fully online, MSAT as a place-based program, and MSND as a low-residency program.
- The FNP, PMHNP, and all DNP courses in the nursing programs will be offered online, while most clinicals and CRNA-specific courses will be in person.
Targeted marketing of these programs will focus on Central Ohio and select Antioch location(s). It is expected that the programs of this School will operate in multiple locations, especially for clinical practice purposes, while taking advantage of Antioch’s established capacity to provide flexibility and opportunity with the use of technology and low-residency and hybrid formats. Antioch has been a leader in utilizing modalities that combine distance and focused in-person experiences, formats that are particularly effective in engaging older, non-traditional students.
The founding dean will support the needs and expectations of adult learners and have a demonstrated ability to form collaborative relationships within and outside the School. The founding dean will be an excellent communicator with a demonstrated commitment to highest academic standards, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. The dean will understand thestrengths and limitations of various educational modalities and be a champion of students and
faculty alike.
